The Attendorn district takes its name from the former Ewig Monastery. This was a settlement of Augustinian canons founded in 1420 near Attendorn in the Sauerland. It existed until its dissolution in 1803. Today, the former monastery buildings form part of the Attendorn correctional facility. The nearby industrial area "Fernholte" was built in 2016/2017 and offers further commercial space to the industrial location Attendorn. In addition, the district of Neu-Listernohl is located not far from here. The inhabitants of Listernohl were resettled here when the Biggetalsperre was built and finally flooded in the 1950s.
