Geseke

The Hellweg region with its springs and productive loess soil has been inhabited since the Stone Age. In Geseke, a found Frankish-Merovingian pottery kiln from the end of the 6th or 7th century testifies to a larger settlement around a noble court. Already mentioned in a document in 833, Geseke received its town charter in 1217. In addition to the half-timbered houses along the historic Hellweg, the late Romanesque and Romanesque churches in the vicinity of the open Geseke brook and the Rosenteich pond are worth seeing, as is the completely preserved rampart.
