Schmerlecke is a district of the town of Erwitte and consists of the agricultural old village and the settlement "Im Kleefeld" in the south. In the historically grown village center you can find old farm buildings with mighty green sandstone walls, the St. Antonius chapel and a former distillery. Schmerlecke's landmark, visible from afar, is the windmill, built in 1831 from limestone. Its walled-in gallery over round arches is striking and rare. Until about 1906, the grain of the Schmerleck farmers was ground into flour here.
