Hellinghausen is one of 17 districts of Lippstadt and is known for its "stony bread". According to legend, the bread of a rich sister turned to stone after she denied her poor sister and her starving children a piece of bread in their time of need. Today it can be seen in the entrance area of St. Clement's Church. From the nearby vantage point Hellinghäuser Mersch, nature lovers have an undisturbed view of the aurochs-like Heck cattle, the migratory birds and other animals that feel at home on this piece of untouched nature.
